Overview

Maverick Coffee Bar, nestled in the vibrant heart of San Antonio at 102 King Philip, stands out as a hidden gem within a lively community art space near La Villita. This cozy coffee shop offers more than just quality brews—it delivers an experience shaped by genuine warmth and local charm. Stepping inside, visitors are greeted by the inviting presence of Dora, whose friendly service and infectious smile set the tone for a welcoming environment.

The espresso here is a defining feature, with its organic-like character that some may find slightly sour, adding a distinct nuance to the traditional coffee experience. For those eager to explore beyond the classic, the Mazapán Latte is a creative twist incorporating Mexican fruit, adding regional authenticity to the menu. Accompanying these rich coffees is the chocolate brownie—an indulgent treat that perfectly complements the bitter notes of a well-crafted espresso.

Maverick’s allure extends beyond its beverages. The breakfast tacos, especially the egg and bacon variety, have garnered praise for their freshness and flavor, positioning the coffee bar as a spot that caters well to both morning commuters and casual visitors. The space itself, nestled near the intersections of S Alamo St and E Nueva St, embodies a laid-back, artistic vibe mirroring the surrounding neighborhood’s creative pulse.

While finding Maverick Coffee Bar can be a bit of a treasure hunt—with Google Maps offering the best guidance despite some inaccuracies on other platforms—this only adds to its discovery appeal. It attracts a diverse crowd, from local art enthusiasts and morning workers to families, thanks to unique offerings like kid-friendly steamers and adventurous coco drinks. The bar’s selection of espresso-based drinks and carefully curated cocktail options celebrates a refined yet approachable coffee culture.

In essence, Maverick Coffee Bar is more than just a place to grab a cup; it’s a community fixture that combines excellent coffee, thoughtful service, and a welcoming atmosphere. Whether you seek a quiet moment, a flavorful espresso, or a delicious bite near San Antonio’s Riverwalk, this spot invites you to savor the simple pleasures in a setting that feels both vibrant and homey.

Good espresso. It tasted a little like organic coffee, (not sure what kind of coffee beans they brew) which I dislike, because of it sour taste, but i am still giving it 5 stars.

On Apple Maps the location is wrong. Use Google Maps instead to find this place. It’s located near the intersection of S Alamo St and E Nueva St. Creative little coffee shop near the Riverwalk in La Villita, a community art space south of downtown core. If you’re in the area walking around, try this coffee shop. The Mazapán Latte was delicious, a latte with chunks of the Mexican fruit. There is on going construction in S Alamo St, so you’re gonna park a little further away and walk to this place.

I love the Lone Star Mocha at this place. The bacon and egg breakfast taco is pretty good too. However, the operating hours say they open at 0800, but I've stopped by at 0830 and they were closed. Has happened three times already. Hope they can get back to consistency because this place is quite convenient when walking around downtown.

Cute place! I actually love their coffee. However, their posted hours (online and in the coffee shop window) state, “everyday 8-3”. Just went to get my fix, at 859 and they are definitely not open. The lady that has helped me the last several times has kinda a blah demeanor… I was so exited to find this place on tik tok and kinda wanted her to meet my enthusiasm. She just wasn’t feeling it. I’d go back though, their coffee is yummy. Tacos aren’t bad either.
